Homeless man in feud over dog gets good news
Thursday, September 27th, 2007A down-on-his-luck homeless man embroiled in a bitter feud with some Good Samaritans over a 10-pound pooch named Kipper may have found a little good fortune.
Global TV Calgary reports that an anonymous benefactor has offered to put Gary Husband up for one month in a hotel room so that he can be reunited with his Italian greyhound named Kipper. Husband and Kipper had been living out of a car recently, until businessman Paul Piotto saw Kipper nearly strangling when his collar became caught in the window.
Piotto rescued Kipper and gave him to the Schmidt family, who fell in love with the tiny pooch. But Husband, who admitted his life had become “a bit of a shambles’ after losing much of his money to scam artists, was distraught at losing the dog who was “like a son’ to him.
The Calgary Humane Society seized Kipper from the Schmidts, saying they needed time to sort out the question of ownership. (bn, jk)
