Puppy Mill Rescue

July 26th, 2007

Juliet is a cute Italian Greyhound puppy. Just like the kind you see in a pet store. But if you look at Lily an older Italian Greyhound who was raised on a puppy mill you see a big difference. Lily’s bottom jaw is severely decayed from neglect during her years on the mill. If Juliet had not been rescued from the mill she was on her future could have looked a lot like Lily’s.

Tiny dog saves baby from rattlesnake

July 23rd, 2007

Zoey is a Chihuahua, but when a rattlesnake lunged at her owners’ 1-year-old grandson, she was a real bulldog.

Booker West was splashing his hands in a birdbath in his grandparents’ northern Colorado back yard when the snake slithered up to the toddler, rattled and struck. Five-pound Zoey jumped in the way and took the bites.

Not about Italian Greyhounds, but it is a nice dog story. You can read the article here.

A MAN whose pack of greyhounds fatally mauled a much-loved pet dog on a Melbourne beach last year has been banned from greyhound racing for three years.

Several years ago my wife and I decided to try the off leash area with our Italian Greyhound. Another person has three Whippets off leash and they decided to hunt down my Italian Greyhound. I had to jump in a pick up my dog, but I felt the Whippet owner was slow in responding to the threat on my dog. That was the first and last time we tried the off leash area. I can’t image trying to break up full Greyhounds. Very scary for this poor women.

Smiles and laughs also filled the Cornell Museum in Old School Square, as amused owners watched the interactions of real-life dogs and the dog pastels and photographs in the museum’s “For the Love of Dogs” exhibit. Yorkshire Dayton tried repeatedly to climb one of the sculptures, while 11-pound Italian greyhound Lucia bounded about Lucy, a slower, 40-pound Chinese shar-pei.

Passing driver snatches couple’s best friend off Interstate 10

June 19th, 2007

A bizarre kidnapping in April on a stretch of Interstate 10 between Las Cruces and Deming has left a Washington family devastated.

What makes the incident so unusual is that the victim — while a beloved member of the family — is not human; she’s the family dog. Marla LeClerc, an over-the-road truck driver for Tacoma-based Norwest Express, was in tears Friday as she spoke by phone from her Washington state home about the loss of her best friend

PET TALES: Veteran Navy Dog receives full military honors at funeral

June 1st, 2007

[Editor] This article has a few dog tales. I really like the story about the Navy dog. The article does have a section about a poor Italian Greyhound.

A neighbor of mine was walking her Italian greyhound on the beach at Mickler’s Landing when the dog was attacked by a much larger dog that escaped from its owner, who was seated on the beach. Sophie was hurt so badly she required care from the University of Florida’s veterinary school. She seems to be recovering well, although it’s taken longer than expected and has been a heartbreaking experience as well as extremely expensive.
